Railay Beach, Pool Side Sunsets

 Nov 25, 2022 - Friday

We had looked at the forecast and today looks to be a nice morning for an adventure. We had planned last night that we would take off to Railay Bay if the weather looked good in the morning. We took off soon after waking up only to be caught in a big rain storm on the way to the beach. Not to worry, we ducked into a little cafe and ended up having a good breakfast at the Coffee Club. I happily sipped on a latte and Graham on a smoothie while overlooking the beach and boats with the rain coming down in sheets. We had eggs Benedicts and a healthy start breakfast, (one guess on who got what!) just in time for the sun to come out. We paid 400 baht for a round trip ticket and were off on a boat in no time. It was a quick voyage to Railay Beach West and happily we were pretty early in the day still. We walked the island and its beaches and found a quiet mini beach tucked in some limestones at the far end of Phra Nang Cave Beach. I went for a huge swim out to the formations in the ocean (Ko Rang Non) while Graham had fun flying his drone around. It was nice and relaxing in our little nook with no other tourists. On the way back it was a different story. At the Princess Cave where there's a popular beach and climbing spot it was shoulder to shoulder people. We booked it through the crowds and back to Railay Beaches. We stopped for light lunch and a cool down coconuts, I had a fruit plate with dragon fruit and some very scrumptious watermelon and pineapple.

We considered walking the beach again but so many people were showing up we decided to get away from the crowds and back to the relaxing pace of our villa. So we jumped back into a long tail boat and headed back north.

As usual we jumped in for the lovely cool down swim after arriving. I had a nice read and Graham a nice nap. We had a nice relaxing time just hanging out poolside, overlooking the town and beach while watching the sun drop lower.

We were treated to an epic sunset, plenty of towering cumulonimbus clouds over the hills around us lit up into bright colours and we got peek-a-boo shots of the sun through the far off clouds over Phuket. It alternated between bright rays shining down and the full amber sun dropping into the skyline. We had fun taking pictures and swimming in the pool while the sun dropped.
